Álafosskvos, the old factory of the Álafoss woolens company, was converted some years ago into a colony of artists’ studios. Some artists open their studios to the public – prospective visitors should always contact in advance the artists they are interested in. Works by most of the artists with studios there are on show at the Álafoss Factory Warehouse Sale. One of the main tourist attractions in Mosfellsbær, the Álafoss Factory Sale is a good place to pick up bargain woolen goods and also houses a small exhibition about Iceland’s woolens industry which flourished there. Works by artists from Mosfellsbær are also exhibited at Álafoss-föt bezt café. At Stekkjarflöt there is a small lake with a jetty – it is a popular place for boating in summer and ice skating in winter.
